For those whom I've not had contact with yet: guess what, I survived Europe! :D No trains de-railing in Paris or falling off cliffs/getting eaten by sheep in Scotland. The trip was amazing and like my last major trip I'm going to try and do summaries by place - unfortunately I was an idiot and didn't have my camera out for the majority of the time, so there won't be pictures, really.

So let's go in order, part one: Paris )

So about that whole updating more often thing. Yeah, didn't happen. Who's surprised? :DDD So, we'll be going through the semester in bullet-point-summary-mode. I would like to point out that these are not necessarily chronological order, I apologize for the confusion.

Semester abroad cliff notes yaaaaaay )

But I'm home, and despite being rather cold (heating vents to my room are closed when I leave for the semester, and they've not been opened up yet) and pestered by cats am enjoying myself. I have four days to unpack, finish an internship application, do laundry, see HP7 and repack for two weeks in Europe which I leave for on the 18th. Which means I need to find out where Dad moved the sweaters in the top of my closet to when he was doing stuff in the attic, because I kind of want to bring those...

While doing away with the "restricted content - are you sure you want to view this" warnings was a definite plus, I barely update my livejournal as it is, which means this is almost certainly going to fall by the wayside fairly soon, which is a shame because it's awfully pretty >.>

Ah, well, what's done is done is done, and who knows, maybe this will provide some incentive :)

It's been a long five days @.@ )

Short version: The Japanese police are numerous and extremely bored so be careful about EVERYTHING, I have a phone named Shiro-chan who has some issues but is loved nonetheless, stay away from Roppongi unless you want to get drugged/robbed/die and I became thoroughly addicted to milk tea in under two days and am going to miss it immensely when I am again stateside.

And I haven't even started classes yet.

Pre-Japan update number whatever-the-hell, yaaaay :D

Phone stuff is sorted! *bounces about* I'll be stealing my dad's smartphone for the next 4 months, which is unlocked and has a keyboard, so all that's left to do is get myself a SIM card when I arrive in Japan. Which I should be able to do I think. I'll deal with replacing my actual phone once I'm back in the country, and parentals have figured out wtf is going on with our family plan. Woot solving stuff.

I am also packed ladies and...wait, do I actually have any guys friended?, what's more, I am packed with room to spare.

Well, ok, it's not exactly room to spare, but I have an empty pocket and I definitely did not pack my bags as tightly as I could have, plus on the flight home I will be wearing my peacoat, not packing it, so I'm calling it room to spare. :3 Ha.

So, all that's left is to pack the last few things (shirts that were just washed, ipod, phone, glasses, etc), and study like hell for that placement test I'll be taking...sometime after I arrive. Probably the first day of class. Which would be going a lot better if I could actually like, focus, and hadn't packed my textbooks. >> planning. Um. about that....

So...now I'm in that awkward timestamp where I feel it's too early to start putting things in suitcases (and some stuff I can't put in suitcases cause I, y'know, kind of need it over the next week) but I really want to get started on things - actually to be totally honest I really want to get started on the things I'll need to be doing once I arrive in Japan and those I really can't get to. -.- So I have to settle for making lists of crap and chewing my nails. I don't get how it can simultaneously feel like there is too much time till I get there and not enough wtf reality Also why is it impossible to find a map of campus >.> Like not where the buildings are but inside the buildings? nnnnnnnnng planning >.<

Also dad has a grand plan (since our phone contract is conveniently ending) to try and get me a phone here that I would be able to use in Japan and then continue to use once I got back - which would be awesome cause my phone is showing signs of dying, and would also not leave me with a random headset bouncing around upon my return...but it's less than a week till I leave. And he's leaving on a business trip like two days before I leave and knowing my family there just isn't going to be time. Plus, ideally, I'd like to get a phone with a proper keyboard hey [livejournal.com profile] faded_lace can I just steal your old one? cause I'll be emailing/etc so much in Japan, but sofar one of those isn't on the lists of phones he can get a good deal on. Though there is a pretty sweet touchscreen one but there's other complications with that one too Plus there's the issue of unlocking it so I can, y'know, use it in a foreign country. :/ It would be nice if we could have started figuring this sort of thing out at, like, the beginning of the month?

In slightly happier news, we are like 3 boards and a series of steps away from having a back deck, which will make the cats extremely happy once the workmen leave and means that there is no longer a foot and a half drop out the kitchen door. It does look damn strange, though, having stuff there though after like two years of the "moat".

Oh and my catbite is healed to the point I can wear just bandaids instead of gauze wraps :3 yay.

...has been pretty damn boring XD My dad's working on the landscaping around our house, and I'm helping cause I'm getting paid to which means not only do we have massive piles of mulch, several potted things, empty pots that previously held things, and a bunch of trees that keep falling over lying around, I now spend the majority of my days planting massive amounts of pachysandra everywhere. I almost miss the daily battles with foot-and-a-half high weeds... Supposedly, this magical plant will keep down weeds in our flower beds. All I know is it's been about a month and I never want to see the damn thing again. Unfortunately, I'm planting it all over our property, so that's not really an option XD ah, well.

In other news, I successfully found Fakir pants (go old navy, go!) after a long and frustrating search (why is it so hard to find white pants? I mean really now) and since my wig is ordered, I am aaaaaaaaaaall set for Otakon this year - I just need my train tickets. I also found some pretty new skirts and shorts that fit (go old navy, go! take 2) and replaced all of my ridiculously worn out socks (...JC penny this time) XD yay shopping trips with mom.

I am also on a letter kick, as I have some pretty new stationary and some random other stationary that I found in the depths of my bookshelf and a notebook that I'm tearing pages out of, so if anyone wants a letter, drop me an email/message/screened comment with your address and I will happily ramble at you for a page or so and send it off ^ ^ You can write back, or not, either is fine, I just want to use pretty paper XD

And last but not least, I'm in the market for a new LJ layout, and am unimpressed with the ones offered :/ does anyone know some good comms/creators who's journals I can poke through to find one? I tried searching and such but it didn't quite work. EDIT: Found one~ :D thank you

We have a snow day and I'm delaying doing my bio reading, so we finally get a post! XD I swear I was intending to update this more often.

As far as classes go, things are pretty ok - orgo is becoming significantly less stressful, now that I have a decent lecture teacher. We're switching books in Japanese though, which is kind of traumatic, because the new one is, well, >.> scary. But we'll get through. My chinese history class is boring as all hell, but the teacher is entertaining. I just wish I was better at analytical reading/writing - three grades in the whole class and all of them papers sldkjfskld.

Study abroad has hit that lovely, inevitable waiting period where Bryn Mawr hasn't approved me yet and Temple can't process my application until Bryn Mawr approves me. I'm fairly confident in my chances, but like all things it would be nice to actually know.

Katsucon went wonderfully, once we actually got to the hotel - major props to [livejournal.com profile] faded_lace for not freaking out at how long it took us or the multitude of times we got lost. That being said, we are never using that gps again. Ever.

Cosplay was made of utter awesome, and we did manage to get it done - largely due to poor [livejournal.com profile] moonlightlady14 staying up until 4AM to finish hemming and attaching things and a lot of safety pins once we were actually wearing them. But they looked great and we couldn't go more then like 10 feet without being asked for photos - which unfortunately meant we didn't see much of the con, but it was fun anyway. That reminds me - sailor moon crew, we need to do a meet up and mass picture exchange at some point, because some people didn't have cameras and not everyone's cameras were used for each shot.

Alright, I think I've procrastinated long enough. To work! *dives into pile of readings*

So...about how I haven't posted in 2 1/2 months? XD um, yeah, sorry about that. I swear I used to update this thing more often but then organic chemistry and lioncrest and real life kind of ate any incentive to post that I had.

So, hello to new people from LC *waves* Like I said, I used to update this more often and I'll try and work on that next semester XD

And now it's time for the 'what the hell happened in the two and a half months in which Brit was not posting' report. \o/ yay! (I'm sure most people have heard bits and pieces of this except for [livejournal.com profile] hyoutan who was in australia and [livejournal.com profile] genicheerios and [livejournal.com profile] jackalackala with whom I do not speak anywhere near often enough T.T)

Classes went okay - Japanese teacher turned out fine, Bio was alright, Calligraphy turned into life drawing halfway through which was strange, but I managed to throw together something resembling a final project that my teacher liked and now it's over. whew. Orgo was a general cycle of reading, practicing, reviewing and then walking out of the tests/quizzes realizing I knew a hell of a lot less than I thought I did >.< I could write pages of bitching about orgo but again, most people have heard it already, and when it comes down to it I don't really want to write it.

Real life was busy - drama with Scottish dance club cause we're having issues with the teacher, and losing people because of it and >.<, but Bryn Mawr hosted a dance which was a rousing success :D and I have new dresses, and am going to the New Years Ball. Oh, and my ballet slippers finally coughed and died on me (and by that I mean developed a second hole in the bottom and the beginnings of a third) so I now have Lizz's 7-year-old competition gillies which are still in decent shape and somehow fit me, despite our having very differently sized feet XD.

Anime club is (to my knowledge, which given my incredible ability to not notice drama, is questionable) going well - we have a huge turnout for Katsucon (probably something to do with the fact that hotel rooms are free >.>) and we're in the process of figuring out rides and cosplay stuff which will hopefully get done on time and work o.O

So, currently, I am at [livejournal.com profile] faded_lace's house - originally we were going to use this time to style my mercury wig, but then there were supply issues and it didn't come in so now we're just hanging out - with a crap ton of stuff that I am taking home for winter break and it's snowing. And I slept till noon :D yay.

So, um about how I haven't posted in a month? XD yeah, sorry.

I am alive. Insanely busy, but alive. My orgo lectures still put me to sleep, stuff with the Japanese teacher is slowly getting better, job is boring as hell but pays wonderfully, and we are finally making a tiny bit of headway on the sailor moon cosplays. :D yay.

I am desperately looking forward to fall break as it will hopefully also mean a break from the massive amounts of homework I have to do each weekend. -.- hopefully. Also [livejournal.com profile] faded_lace and [livejournal.com profile] moonlightlady14 are for some reason braving the train ride of death to come home with me over fall break, so that ought to be fun :D

....now about that homework *attempts to do bio post lab*

In other news, I asked the mail room today if they were hiring students and they were ambivalent about me until I said I could work Saturdays. Then he seemed more eager, and told me to come back thursday. So I may (hopefully possibly pleasepleaseplease) have a job - now granted one that would require my working tuesday and thursdays before I go to japanese and possibly every saturday for the rest of the semester, but damn it it is a job and a paying one and I'm sure I could find a sub for the one time when I think I wont be here on a saturday which is katsucon.

THERE IS A GOD

I HAVE A LUNCH ON MONDAYS AND WEDNESDAYS THANK YOUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU *insert spiritual being of choice*

:DDDDDDDDD

For those who are now utterly confused, and explaination:

Because I am obviously insane I am trying to do an east asian studies major while fulfilling all of my pre-vet requirements AND study abroad in Japan. This means I am taking pretty much exclusively science and east asian courses. So, this year, I'm taking both intro to biology and organic chem. However, this meant, or at least I thought it meant, that I had class straight through from 8:30 in the morning until 5:30PM on mondays and 4:00 PM on wednesdays, because I thought I had lab right after class. Now, for those who know me, I do not do well without food. And since they closed the dining hall nearest to the science building I was kind of panicking that I would have no way to get lunch without like packing it in the morning or something.

:DDDD

Turns out I have an hour between the end of biology and the start of lab so I now have luuuuuuuuuuunch which means foooooooooooooood and no starving and/or fainting during lab. :3

In other news, my room is fantastic. I love it to pieces. If I ever figure out how to upload photos onto livejournal I will post pictures. (thats a damn big if XD) I still need to put up posters, etc, but I have everything else set up and there is prince of tennis stuff EVERYWHERE 8D

and I can climb out onto the roof.

it rocks.

I am not dead, I promise, it's just that nearly all of my livejournal time has been spent over at [livejournal.com profile] lion_crest.

So, for the near future, if I'm not updating here or on facebook first check [livejournal.com profile] silverfromsteel and if there hasn't been any activity over there for a while, then I really am dead. If there has been activity, I've just been distracted XD.
